Vita
Simon Kannenberg studied musicology, theology and singing in Hamburg. At the University of Music and Drama he achieved a Dr. phil. with a thesis about Joachim Raff and Hans von Bülow: Portrait of a musical friendship – Edition of their letters (Würzburg 2020) which was honoured with the dissertation award of the German Musicological Society (GfM).
He worked as a concert dramaturg and orchestra manager before continuing his academic career as a research associate at the University of Siegen and lecturer at Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf. Since April 2026, he has been a research assistant on the DFG project Digital Catalogue of Liszt’s Sources and Works (LisztQWV) at the Department of Musicology at Heidelberg University. Further lectureships led him to the Universities of Music in Hamburg and Detmold.
Apart from the music history of the 19th century he is especially interested in performance studies, the history of concert halls, music sociology, music aesthetics as well as trauma studies. He regularly presents his research findings at international conferences.
