Digital Catalogue of Liszt’s Sources and Works (LisztQWV)
Funding organization: German Research Foundation (DFG); Duration: Long-term project (2022–2034)
The “Digital Catalogue of Liszt’s Sources and Works (LisztQWV)” fills a gap in 19th-century music research by cataloguing, for the first time, all sources and works of the composer Franz Liszt (1811–1886). On the one hand, it responds to the needs of Liszt research, which has until now lacked a complete and reliable catalogue of the composer’s sources and works. On the other hand, it applies new digital models of relational visualisation in order to make productive use of Liszt’s flexible concept of the ‘work’, which has hitherto made it difficult to distinguish clearly between works and versions. As a catalogue project designed as a long-term undertaking spanning a period of twelve years, it is intended to serve as a basis for Liszt research and provide it with lasting impetus, whilst also offering the music-loving public a new perspective on a composer who, still, has been insufficiently characterised. Through a digital presentation in open access and in accordance with the FAIR principles, the research results will not only be freely accessible but also optimally reusable and interoperable.
